Anti-war activists interrupted a Barrack Obama speech in Michigan to tell the former president to stop fanning the flames of war in Ukraine. Politicians on both sides of the aisle have lobbied for unwavering support for Ukraine, no matter the cost on American citizens or elevated risk of nuclear war.
“You overthrew Ukraine in 2014!” one of the protesters yelled, a reference to the current conflict’s origins. Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych — who had closer ties with Russia — was ousted that year after massive demonstrations in the nation’s capital. Elements in some Ukrainian oblasts — particularly those in the nation’s east — advocated for continued close ties with Russia, while others pushed for better relations with the EU and NATO.
The unrest soon turned violent, with rioting and killings of civilians on both sides that ultimately led to armed conflict between the Ukrainian government and Russian-backed separatists.
The U.S. was highly supportive of Ukraine’s “Euromaidan” revolution in 2014, leading some, including the Russian government, to argue that U.S. intelligence agencies directly stoked a color revolution.
Obama, who was president at the time of the political upheaval in Ukraine, has supported his former vice president’s handling of the conflict. “You overthrew the legitimate Ukrainian government in 2014!” one of the protesters yelled. “Tell us about your plan for nuclear war with Russia!”
“Stop provoking nuclear war with Russia! You’re going to kill us with nuclear war,” one woman continued to yell. “Russia is the enemy,” a nearby leftist rally attendee shot back.
“No nuclear war!” she continued to yell as seemingly pro-nuclear war rally attendants attempted to block her out. “Will you till the truth before the world walks into World War III?” another anti-war protester implored.

The Biden Administration has provided Ukraine with billions in defense funding since Russia invaded last March. Advanced rocket systems, such as the HIMARS launcher, have been supplied to the Ukrainian government in bulk. One official even confirmed that U.S. intelligence assisted Ukraine in sinking a vital Russian warship earlier this year.
Despite a current scenario that has the world closest to the brink of nuclear war since the 1980’s, and energy shortages that could lead to blackouts across Europe this winter, the Biden Administration has pledged to support Ukraine for many years if necessary.
