Oxane “Gypsy” Taub, a pro-nudity activist who was convicted of attempted kidnapping of a child and former romantic partner of Paul Pelosi attack suspect David DePape, described her ex as having similar political stances to her own, “progressive” views.
“Did he ever show any aggression towards politicians, were his political beliefs extreme in your opinion?” Taub was asked by Tara Campbell of ABC 7. “Well when I met him, he was only 20 years old ,and he didn’t have any experience in politics, and he was very much in alignment with my views and I’ve always been very progressive,” Taub replied. “I absolutely admire Nancy Pelosi,” she said, adding that she wished the house speaker’s husband well.
Taub told ABC7 that she met DePape 20 years ago. Together they raised their two sons and a daughter before separating about seven years ago.
DePape and Taub raised children in their Berkely home as the couple actively participated in a series of pro-public nudity demonstrations from 2011-2013. According to neighbors, the couple would frequently travel to Mexico to acquire pills and psychedelic drugs in order to “heal” mental illnesses in the community.
Ryan La Coste, one of Taub and DePape’s neighbors, said that the pair would often disturb neighbors with frequent public nudity around minors and other odd behavior. ‘Before Gypsy got locked up, there were sex dolls drying on the back of their porch that I’m assuming she bought for her sons,’ La Coste said, according to a SubStack article from Michael Shellenberger.
Photos of the home in which a broken-down school bus and a “Black Lives Matter” sign have gone been shared hundreds of thousands of times on social media. While Taub told ABC 7 that the couple split seven years ago, a neighbor said that DePape was living in the broken-down school bus as recently as this year.
A neighbor identified as “Trish” told reporters that she only saw DePape’s face one time over the past month when he emerged from the school bus, indicating that DePape had been living at the property recently. When asked how long DePape had been living at the property, the neighbor was unsure, saying that neighbors tend to avoid the family whenever possible.
“So the last time you saw him was a couple weeks ago?” a reporter asked. “Yeah,” the neighbor replied.
When asked if she had any idea insight into the family’s political views the neighbor said no. She did add that she would “imagine they were more left-leaning,” however, noting the LGBT flag and Black Lives Matter sign.
Taub did indeed tell ABC 7 that she describes herself as a “progressive” and always believed that DePape had similar views to her.

In 2021, Gypsy Taub was convicted on 20 counts, including an attempted abduction of a 14-year-old boy.
The harassment began in 2019, when police said Taub continued inappropriate behavior with a former friend of her son despite the boy’s family placing a restraining order on her. Law enforcement said Taub would write letters to the boy about how it would be legal to date in other states. At one point, Taub drove by the child’s home in order “profess her love and desire” to be with him.
Taub later had a package delivered to the boy by her son, which included a sinister letter asking the boy to meet her somewhere without his phone. “This is our last chance to help you,” the letter read. “Leave your bag and your regular cell phone in the locker.”
As for David DePape, 42, he is now being accused of sexually abusing one of the family’s three children in the aftermath of the alleged attack on Paul Pelosi. He is facing a litany of charges in connection with that case, including attempted murder.
