A former teacher who was convicted of grooming and raping a 13-year-old student, and grooming another boy in a separate incident, has divorced her husband from behind bars.
Daniel Zamora stood by his wife Brittany Zamora, 29, as she was on trial for and convicted of sexual conduct with a minor, public sexual indecency and molestation of a child, according to the Daily Mail.
She was also accused of attempting to groom another young teenage boy by promising to send him nude photos.
During a class, Brittany asked the victim’s friend if he was circumcised, before showing him pictures of genitalia as he did not understand the question. But the friend of the victim maintains that she never tried to touch or kiss him.
Brittany was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crimes she committed when she taught at Las Brisas Elementary School in Goodyear, Arizona. She was caught by a WhatsApp monitor on her victim’s phone which detects inappropriate content for minors, called Sentry Parental Control.
The unnamed 13-year-old boy later admitted having intercourse with Brittany. On one incident, another boy was on the lookout as Brittany and her victim had sex in a classroom.
The affair continued behind Daniel’s back. Before her March 2018 arrest, 3 students complained about Brittany’s behavior to the administration.
On April 28 Brittany filed for divorce, checking a box stating “Our marriage is broken beyond repair (“irretrievably broken”) and there is no hope of reconciliation.” As part of the divorce proceedings, Brittany agreed to relinquish any shared property.
Daniel stood by his accused wife. He even called up the victim’s family–which was reported to authorities as harassment–to get them to plea for his wife.
He tried to get the family of the victim to settle the case out of court, but the victim’s refused and terminated the conversation.
The victim’s family sued Daniel for failing to report his wife’s affair to the authorities when he learned about it.
Brittany, who said she would not survive prison before sentencing, has lost her teaching certificate following her conviction.
