A young man, with over 100 arrests, was recorded on video appearing to randomly hit an elderly woman in the face walking down a Manhattan street in an unprovoked attack, causing the elderly woman to collapse to the floor, nearly hitting her head on a fire hydrant.
The 92-year-old woman, an unnamed former teacher, was pushing a cart, before being struck in the face by the careless man who looked back at the falling woman before moving on, according to the brief footage.
The elderly woman tumbled after falling off balance following the blow, narrowly missing a fire hydrant with her head which could have proven a devastating injury.
According to The New York Post, the unprovoked incident took place 3:30 p.m. last Friday on Third Avenue near East 16th Street in the Gramercy Park neighborhood.
A witness in the background looks on in disbelief as the assailant casually walks on.
The former teacher said: “I’m frightened to tears. I’m not going to walk there on my own, and it’s very upsetting. It’s very upsetting.”
She continued: “I thought it was a brick or something like that hit me on the right scalp, on the right side of my head, and of course, I fell down on the street. There were a couple of young women there. They helped me up. They said, ‘I’m going to call an ambulance.'”
Despite suffering a few bruises, the elderly Manhattanite is mostly OK apart from being shaken up.
ABC7 reports the suspect, who was identified as 31-year-old Rashid Brimmage, has been charged with assault, and his motivation for the assault is unknown.
The New York Post mentioned the infamous “knock-out” game from a few years ago, which saw several arrests for suspected hate crimes.

Social media was not best impressed by the incident. Singer Eric Carmen wrote: “He should be treated with the exact same respect he exhibited when he punched that 92-year-old woman…Which is “none.””
Another person tweeted his anger toward NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio: “Young black man throws elderly white woman to the ground in de Blasio’s NYC.”
Reports on social media indicate that the unnamed suspect has been apprehended. One social media user wrote: “BREAKING: Man who pushed a 92-year-old woman to the ground in Manhattan – causing her to strike her head on a fire hydrant – has been apprehended by the NYPD.”

“That’s attempted murder. Anyone with a brain cell knows that an elderly person and cement is a lethal combo. How about a jury of her peers?” Tweeted one enraged account.
