President Donald Trump made a significant pledge to secure America’s borders on Tuesday. If elected to another term, Trump promised to enact an executive order on day one of his presidency that would strip American citizenship for all people who don’t have a parent who is a legal American citizen. Trump called those saying he can’t do that “misinformed open border advocates.”
Trump released a video on TruthSocial pledging to restore America’s borders. Trump captioned the video, “As part of my plan to Secure the Border, on day one of my new term in office — I will sign an Executive Order ending automatic citizenship for the children of illegal aliens…”
Trump began his video by saying, “Under Biden’s current policies, even though these millions of illegal border crossers have entered our country unlawfully. All the future children will become American citizens. They will be eligible for welfare and the right to vote. ”
Trump pointed out that Bien’s policy” is a reward for breaking the laws of the United States.”
Trump made a strong argument that the United States is one of the only countries in the world that guarantees birthright citizenship saying, “The United States is one of the only countries that says even if neither parent is a citizen the future child are automatic citizens the moments their parents trespass onto our soil.”
Trump details his plan, “As part of my plan to secure the border on Day One of my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship.”
Trump called out those stating he could not do that by saying, “As scholars point out, this current policy is based on a misinterpretation of the law by open border advocates, and there aren’t many of those around.”

Also, in the past, Joe Biden has said he believes he has the power via the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling via executive order. Congressional Democrats have also called on Biden to use the 14th Amendment to forgive all student debt. Given this history, Democrats will have a difficult time arguing Trump does not have the power to issue his U.S. Citizenship Executive Order.
