The Pennsylvania Republican gubernatorial candidate ripped into his opponent for dodging the debate stage.
Doug Mastriano, a staunch Trump supporter and America First advocate, called his far-Left Democrat opponent Josh Shapiro a “coward” for refusing to debate him.
“He’s a coward and he’s dodging just like the Democrat candidate is down in Maryland against my friend Dan Cox, just like they won’t debate in Arizona,” Mastriano told Laura Ingraham on Fox News.
Mastriano’s comments referenced the Arizona gubernatorial race where, like in Pennsylvania, the Democrat gubernatorial nominee refused to debate their Republican opponent.
In Arizona, Democrat Katie Hobbs refused to debate Republican Kari Lake. “UPDATE @katiehobbs responds to debate organizers by 5pm deadline: She doesn’t want a debate. Wants separate interviews for her & @KariLake,” a local Arizonan NBC News correspondent posted on Twitter.
Laura Ingraham told Mastriano that her Fox News team reached out to his opponent, Shapiro, to try and set up a debate but Shapiro contested Mastriano wanted to choose the debate moderator, which “blew up” the negotiation process.

“I even offered Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln style debate. We just go back and forth. He refuses to debate and he’s finding every pretense as a coward,” Mastriano fired back.
“Josh Shapiro is a disaster and he’s too radical and extreme in Pennsylvania. He’s failed us as the attorney general,” the PA Republican gubernatorial candidate added.
Mastriano went on to attribute Pennsylvania’s increasing crime rates to Shapiro’s leadership as the state attorney general.
“We’ve had 946Â carjackings or attempted carjackings. We’re pushing 600 homicides this year. I mean, everything’s a disaster instead of him doing his job,” Mastriano stated.
“He sued to keep businesses shut down. Instead of taking care of kids and watching crime and prosecuting sex trafficking, which is just ridiculously high in Pennsylvania. He’s sued to keep masks on kids last year,” he continued, harping against Shapiro’s leadership during the pandemic.
