Taiwanese electronics and computer hardware company Micro-Star International (MSI) is planning to launch a line of “MIA” gaming desktop PCs ranging from $800-$1,700.
Tom’s Hardware reported Monday that the MIA line – MIA standing for “Made in America,” and the cheapest entry will be the Aegis SE, which comes stock with an Intel Core i5 10400F processor and a GeForce GTX 1660 Super graphics card.
The MIA Aegis SE will have a base price tag of $799. Three other configurations will scale up from there to $1699, featuring higher-end hardware.
The highest-end model in the line, the MSI Aegis Rs, can support some powerful hardware, including an Intel Core i9-10900K CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card, and a 1TB solid state drive coupled with a a 2TB hard disk drive.
According to Tom’s hardware, The Aegis RS and R will “come housed in MSI’s existing 50L PC case, the Gungnir 110R. Meanwhile,the Codex R uses the MAG Force 100R, a 45L chassis, while the Aegis SE is in a smaller, 25L MSI MPG Gungnir 100 with a dedicated RGB button.”
Though the desktops will be assembled, packaged, and shipped in California, the individual components will still be imported from overseas. It is unclear if MSI will be receiving any governmental incentives for building the MIA units in the United States.
Taiwan’s combative relationship with the Communist Chinese government, and the United States’ own ongoing trade war with China, could result in more Taiwanese companies looking to expand their exports to the United States.
