The ADL has listed the often memed 13/52 as a ‘Numeric Hate Symbol,’ joining the hateful ranks of the ‘OK Hand Sign,’ ‘Pepe The Frog,’ and ‘It’s OK to Be White.’
The 13/52 ratio meme rose to prominence in the past year as a means to evade censorship in promoting violent crime statistics–where 13% of the US population commit 52% of violent crime.
Specifically, the FBI found that America’s African American population, roughly 13% of its total, commits the level of crime.
In part, the meme is used to derail progressive egalitarian narratives surrounding crime, alluding to the possibility of there being another causal factor behind the commission of certain crimes other than so-called “systemic racism,” “institutionalized racism,” or wealth inequality.
According to the ADL website:
The number 13 used in conjunction with either the number 52 or the number 90 is a shorthand reference to racist propaganda claims by white supremacists against African-Americans to depict them as savage and criminal in nature.
In this numeric shorthand, the number 13 refers to the purported percentage of the U.S. population that is African-American. The number 52 refers to the alleged percentage of all murders committed in the U.S. that are committed by African-Americans. Some white supremacists use the number 50 instead of 52.
The meme itself isn’t factually correct. In fact, the 18-35 age group of the male demographic within the African American 13% of the US population is responsible for a large portion of 52% of the US murders, significantly reducing the 13 in 13/52.
On the ADL website, a lesser known 13/90 meme is mentioned:
Similarly, white supremacists claim the number 90 refers to the percentage of violent interracial crime allegedly committed by African-Americans. Some white supremacists cite the 1994 National Crime Victimization Survey produced by the Justice Department as evidence for the percentage. However, this figure does not show up in the survey itself and is not considered an accurate one. In any case, it should be noted that the vast majority of violent crime is intraracial (committed by a person of one race against a person of the same race), not interracial, in nature.
White supremacists typically employ references to 13 (by itself), 13/50, 13/52 or 13/90 in response to social media posts, and in the comments sections of news stories about crimes in which the suspected perpetrator is African-American. In some instances, white supremacists use the numbers as a purported police radio code, using language like, “We have a 1390 in progress.”
But it would appear that the ADL may apply a certain double standard in their hate metrics.
The acronym ACAB which stands for ‘All Cops Are Bastards’ is only hateful when certain people use it.
National File reported:
According to the ADL, “The acronym ACAB stands for ‘All Cops Are Bastards’ and is a slogan of long standing in the skinhead subculture.”
Interesting, the ADL continues that “Because non-racist skinheads (including “traditional” skinheads and anti-racist skinheads) may use this acronym as well as racist skinheads, it should be carefully judged in the context in which it appears.”
In short, the ADL seems to suggest that saying “all cops are bastards” may not be inherently racist, and if it is not said with racist intents, then it may not be a negative thing to say.
National File previously reported that the ADL officially placed the OK sign in its hate database, claiming that it has white supremacist ties:
In 2017, an online troll campaign began to trick the media into thinking that the OK sign was a white supremacist one, given how willing they are to decry anything as racist. As expected, the legacy media jumped right onto it, but the ADL themselves did not take the bait, and noted the trolling for what it was.
Despite knowing the entire thing was made up to incense the liberal media, the ADL on Wednesday declared that the OK sign was now an unironic racist symbol, and decided to include it in their hate symbols database.
National File also reported that ADL determined that anti-Antifa images are, indeed, hate speech:
After listing the ‘OK’ Hand Symbol and bowl cuts–yes, bowl cuts–as hate symbols; it appears as if the ADL has made another addition: Anti-Antifa images.
In the age of censorship led by elites to determine political outcomes, the ADL has let its mask slip in classifying seemingly innocuous symbols as hateful.
The OK Hand Symbol troll began on internet message boards such as 4chan, but the media and certain groups took issue with the symbol, identifying it with hate and ‘white supremacy.’
The ADL continues to deal with the fallout from a difficult year, that included the group being mocked after YouTube sensation Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg pulled a significant donation due to audience backlash.
