New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday announced the filing of a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump and his three adult children. James, a Democrat, is accusing them of undervaluing properties in order to gain better rates on loans, insurance policies, and taxes, Breitbart News reported. James has launched numerous investigations into Trump and his businesses over the past few years, none of which have resulted in criminal charges against the family.
The civil suit aims to bar Trump and his children from serving as executives at any company in New York, or to bar the Trump Organization from buying any commercial real estate or obtaining loans from financial institutions in New York for five years.
James is opting to file the lawsuit just before the upcoming midterm elections after years of investigations into the Trump family.
Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, said the lawsuit is not focused on the facts, slammed the lawsuit as frivolous and without merit. “[R]ather, it is solely focused on advancing the Attorney General’s political agenda. It is abundantly clear that the Attorney General’s Office has exceeded its statutory authority by prying into transactions where absolutely no wrongdoing has taken place,” Habba said in a statement.
“We are confident that our judicial system will not stand for this unchecked abuse of authority, and we look forward to defending our client against each and every one of the Attorney General’s meritless claims,” she said.
According to ABC News, Letitia James is suing Trump and his adult children for $250 million in State Supreme Court.
In the lawsuit, James alleged that the Trump family enriched themselves through “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentations,” for 20 years. James is also accusing Trump of “grossly” inflating his net worth by billions of dollars and cheating lenders and others with false and misleading financial statements.
Donald Trump Jr. referred to the leftist D.A.’s lawsuit as another “bull**it Dem with hunt” in a tweet. The president’s eldest son included a montage of James campaigning on politically motivated persecution of Trump and his family.
