A viral video shows a black man attacking a Macy’s store assistant in Michigan, claiming that the worker had racially abused the black man before the assault, though it was later revealed that there was no evidence of a racial slur being directed at the customer.
As a result, Flint Township Police are looking for the two men involved in the attack of the defenseless store assistant.
The cameraman, who posted the video on social media, made the claim that the worker had used a racial slur moments before failing to serve him, prompting the attack.
“We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place on Monday (June 15) at Macy’s Genesee Valley as the safety of Macy’s customers and colleagues is our top priority,” a Macy’s spokesperson told MLive-The Flint Journal.
The spokesperson added: “Violence in the workplace of any kind is unacceptable. All the materials from the evening have been reviewed and it is clear that the attack was unprovoked. We are working closely with local authorities on this investigation, and will defer any further comments about the case to them per policy.”
Other publications as well as the assailant maintained that he had been racially abused before the asasult.
The video went viral across several platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, with many commenters cheering on the aggressor as it was believed the victim was a “racist.”
It was claimed by the original poster, FT Quay, that the worker was on his phone when the assailant asked him a question, to which he mouthed a racial slur before going back to his call. This, in turn, triggered the assault.
“It’s not something that’s been put on the back burner,” Lt. Brad Wangler told MLive following the revelations. “We want to find out what happened.”
Later it was revealed that there was no proof the victim used a racial slur.
