Can Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida use the power of his Gaetz Caucus to make sure that Mike Johnson does NOT send more billions of American dollars to Volodymyr Zelensky’s war regime in Ukraine? Speaker Mike Johnson is now pushing to send Ukraine more money to further fuel World War 3 against Russia. But Speaker Mike Johnson previously impressed his own Louisianans by objecting to Ukraine funding, back before he was speaker. How things change, but Washington stays the same!
“We all do,” Speaker Mike Johnson said when asked if he supports sending more American money to Ukraine. Oh really? Then why did Matt Gaetz oust Kevin McCarthy in the first place? Matt Gaetz said that he ousted McCarthy because McCarthy was making a side deal with Joe Biden’s handlers to fund Ukraine outside of the continuing resolution spending. New Ukraine funding got BLOCKED in this current 45-day continuing resolution. No wonder Mike Johnson told Hannity that he is probably going to try to get rid of the motion to vacate rule that Gaetz used to oust McCarthy.
All war spending is still blocked at this time until new spending bills pass. The populists have had a pretty good Joe DiMaggio-style streak of consecutive days of blocking war spending, especially on the heels of that awesome 22-day funfest that captivated America. However, sadly, the Republican Establishment blocked Jim Jordan, the choice of American conservatives for speaker. And now America….Mike Johnson….
“There’s, uh, we’re gonna have conditions on that so we’re working…We want accountability and we want objectives that are clear from the White House but we’re going to have those discussions and it’ll be very productive,” Johnson said to the press.
But previously, Mike Johnson impressed the folks back home in Louisiana by standing up against Ukraine funding back in 2022, when he voted No on a big chunk of Ukraine funding.
“We should not be sending another $40 billion abroad when our own border is in chaos, American mothers are struggling to find baby formula, gas prices are at record highs, and American families are struggling to make ends meet, without sufficient oversight over where the money will go,” Speaker Mike Johnson said in May 2022, and he impressed people in Louisiana when it was reported in the local press, according to Mike Johnson’s own congressional press release.
Luckily, Matt Gaetz, the ringleader of the Courageous 8 that overthrew McCarthy, is trying to make sure that Speaker Mike Johnson will not be allowed to let the establishment stick Ukraine funding into Israel funding bills, considering that Johnson’s first resolution as Speaker made it clear that Mike Johnson is very much about funding Israel. A Republican Senate bill would actually try to formally split the Ukraine and Israel funding.
Matt Gaetz can’t afford to ride the Mike Johnson victory bus for too long, considering that Mike Johnson is already plotting with Sean Hannity to get rid of the “motion to vacate” that Matt Gaetz used to oust McCarthy.
“Matt Gaetz says Speaker Johnson will be prohibited from bringing up a bill linking Israel/Ukraine aid because “more than half the conference opposes it,'” reported Julie Tsirkin of NBC News.
Matt Gaetz has been doing a pretty good job of making himself appear to be in control of Mike Johnson (an interesting video tweet from Matt Gaetz to that effect can be found here). But it’s time for Gaetz to actually use leverage, to treat Johnson like party leadership (which he is), and to make sure the same Republican majority that voted for Jim Jordan twice on the House floor ends up voting against World War 3. The time is now, Congressman Gaetz!
