President Donald Trump reflected on the challenges of his first term in office, from the Russia hoax and Mueller investigation to the Ukraine hoax, in a heartfelt address in front of staffers and supporters in the White House, where he was greeted with a standing ovation.
Trump noted that he had all Senate Republicans behind him except “one failed presidential candidate,” Mitt Romney, “a guy who can’t stand the fact that he ran one of the worst campaigns” in history in 2012. Trump gave special shout outs to Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise, Devin Nunes, Ron DeSantis, Mark Meadows, and others who helped him “as if their life was at stake.”
“We’ve got a great group of warriors,” Trump said.
“It was evil. It was corrupt. It was dirty cops. It was leakers and liars,” Trump said of the opposition against him, which he has finally vanquished with nine months to go until the presidential election in November.
“I can tell you, at a minimum…It was a disgrace. Had I not fired James Comey, who was a disaster by the way…we caught him in the act. If this happened to President Obama, a lot of people would be in jail already. Many, many years,” Trump said.
“It’s a celebration…We went through Hell, unfairly.”
“We did nothing wrong.”
“It’s the only good headline I’ve ever had in The Washington Post,” Trump said of the front-page headline, “Trump acquitted,” which he held up.
“We first went through Russia, Russia, Russia. It was all bullshit.”
“Tremendous corruption. Tremendous corruption…Horrible dirty cops….A corrupt politician named Adam Schiff…failed screenwriter. Unfortunately he went into politics after that…”
“Adam Schiff is a vicious, horrible person. Nancy Pelosi is a horrible person.”
“It’s been very unfair to the country.”
“These people have gone stone cold crazy…I’ve beaten them my whole life, and I’ll beat them again if I have to.”
