Mike Getz, a Beaumont City Councilman, described the altercation as a “horrific incident.”
Getz claims the perpetrator has been arrested multiple times but state and federal law allows the violent individual to continue coming back to campus.
“This is not his first rodeo. He has been arrested before, but current state and federal law allow these offenders back on campus after a relatively short stay at a juvenile detention facility,” the city councilman explained.
Getz claims this incident should have been prevented since the school district currently holds a policy which requires adults to monitor school bathrooms.
“I am told that policy had already been implemented but that someone failed to show up to monitor the rest room as they were supposed to do.”
The  Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) police chief, Joseph Malbrough, told KDFM he intends to file charges against the attacker: “You can best believe I will file charges.”
“Immediately after the incident took place on Wednesday, our officers were able to take the young man into custody and provide the necessary services for the victim, as well as the necessary steps that follow after we take a juvenile into custody,” Malbrough added.
