During remarks delivered at the White House Conference on American History, President Donald Trump announced that he would be signing into law an executive order called the 1776 Commission that would be aimed at countering anti-American curricula such as the 1619 Project and critical race theory by promoting “patriotic education” to America’s youth.
The announcement came after Trump riffed on the promotion of the 1619 project and critical race theory in the American education system, excoriating the theories as “toxic propaganda” and “ideological poison” that “if not removed will dissolve the civic bonds that tie us together,” and ultimately “destroy our country.”
“Today I am pleased to announce that I will also sign an executive order establishing a national commission to promote patriotic education. It will be called the 1776 commission,” President Trump said, to uproarious applause.
“It will encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history, and make plans to honor the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of our founding, think of that, two hundred and fifty years,” President Trump added.

“The left has warped, defiled, and distorted the American story with deceptions, falsehoods, and lies,” President Trump said. “There is no better example than the New York Times’ totally discredited 1619 Project. This project rewrites American history to teach our children that we were founded on the principle of oppression, not freedom. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
“The left is attempting to destroy that beautiful vision and divide Americans by race in the service of political power. By viewing every issue through the lens of race they want to impose a new segregation, and we must not allow that to happen,” the President continued.
“Critical race theory, the 1619 project, and the crusade against American history is toxic propaganda, ideological poison that if not removed will dissolve the civic bonds that tie us together. It will destroy our country.”
