The day has finally come: Trump reportedly aired a viewing of The Joker at the White House–and liked it.
The massively successful film, which recently broke $1bn sales revenue worldwide, has now broken into the White House, gaining President Trump’s praise according to a report from Yahoo News.
Given the incredible hysteria surrounding the film and overhyped attention to incel terrorism, white nationalism, or any political action inspired by the movie and committed by disaffected young white males; many of the punditry’s concerns have been blown out of proportion.
Often, the same chatterati who’ve condemned Trump for his politics have also dished out the same treatment to what has been singled out as a burgeoning incel movement–perhaps embodied by another movie: CUCK.
In spite of this, Trump decided to show the movie, which, according to a senior White House official, he liked.
Yahoo News reports:
“Joker,” which was released in theaters in October, stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a disturbed young comedian who descends into a world of crime. The movie has proved controversial. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival after it premiered there in August. However, some critics have raised concerns that the film’s dark mood and depiction of a man driven to brutality could inspire copycat crimes.
The senior White House official said Trump liked the film.
Trump is known to be a bit of a movie buff, having starred in several movies himself.
In addition to the panic wafted up by the mainstream media, there had been some concerns about the possibility of a mass shooting due to the demographic to which The Joker allegedly appealed.
Trump chimed in on some of the catharsis surrounding contemporary cinema; according to Indie Wire:
“They’re treating conservatives very unfairly. … Hollywood is really terrible. You talk about racist — Hollywood is racist. What they’re doing with the kind of movies they’re putting out, it’s actually very dangerous for our country. What Hollywood is doing is a tremendous disservice to our country.” Per “The Hunt,” he said, “The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true racists, and are very bad for our country!”
