The Pennsylvania SPCA is searching for two men spotted on video allegedly siccing their dogs on a family’s cat as it sat on the porch of a home in Philadelphia’s Frankford section on Tuesday morning. Security cameras captured two men walking up to the porch then encouraging their dog to maul the family pet. The cat survived but had to undergo surgery.
In the video, two black males can be seen letting their dogs off the leash while encouraging it to maul the cat. The two men can be seen laughing from a Philadelphia sidewalk as the dog rips into the screeching cat. The attack only stopped when the homeowner came outside and shooed them away.
Buddy, a “gentle and caring” family cat, sustained “life-threatening” injuries. The PSPCA shared an update on the cat’s condition on Wednesday, stating that the cat was in extremely critical condition. PSCPA officials say they are ‘cautiously optimistic’ and shared a link to a fundraiser for the medical care.
At one point, the men shouted, “get him” and “good boy” as the two pitbulls mauled the cat. The dogs still appeared to have a hold of the cat when the owner came out, forcing him to pry it from the attacking dog’s mouth.
The two men, if found, face felony charges of animal fighting and animal cruelty that could result in up to seven years behind bars, the SPCA said.
