Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley tried to lure Disney to South Carolina to show off her supposed pro-business credentials, despite Disney’s woke activism for the sexualization of children’s schooling.
Responding to Florida governor Ron DeSantis’ battles with Disney over social issues, Nikki Haley kissed up to Big Mouse, offering a cynical corporatist opinion that totally disregards the bigger existential cultural issues at play. To be clear, Disney actively fought against the Parental Rights In Education Act (the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill) that DeSantis signed in 2022. The law seeks to make it harder for teachers to sexually groom children in the classroom. In response, DeSantis has targeted some of the special privileges that Disney enjoyed while operating as a politically-connected behemoth unto itself down in Florida, terminating Disney’s quasi-governmental Reedy Creek Improvement District.
Does Haley think that shilling for woke corporations will elevate her in the behind-the-scenes donor game in the Republican presidential primary to offset her lack of popularity with voters?
“South Carolina was a very anti-woke state. It still is. And if Disney would like to move their hundreds of thousands of jobs to South Carolina and bring the billions of dollars with them, I’ll let them know I’ll be happy to meet them in South Carolina, and introduce them to the governor and the legislature that would, that would welcome it,” Nikki Haley stated.
As South Carolina governor, Nikki Haley offended many of her state’s residents by taking down the Confederate flag from the state capitol, which obviously endeared her to the globalist establishment but still evidently has not boosted her into serious contention for the presidency. The people matter, and — despite what the American political class says — corporations are not really people.
Hey @Disney, my home state will happily accept your 70,000+ jobs if you want to leave Florida.
We’ve got great weather, great people, and it’s always a great day in South Carolina!
SC’s not woke, but we’re not sanctimonious about it either. pic.twitter.com/uf1PWQjGc5
