A Buffalo, New York woman was sentenced to five years of probation after repeatedly stabbing her defenseless 6-year-old son in the chest, abdomen, and arms.
The boy, who survived, suffered the grizzly attack on October 9, 2019, where he was saved as concerned neighbors sounded the alarm after hearing screams coming from the Purdy Street home.
Mother, Zakiyyah Wolfford, also repeatedly stabbed herself following the bloody assault on her unnamed son. She was found drenched in her blood on her porch when authorities arrived.
Wolfford, 34, was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to a second-degree assault charge for stabbing her son. Wolfford had a history of mental illness, and, as a result, an 8-year protective order has been issued against her, according to Breitbart News.
Wolfford reportedly heard voices and attempted to inflict self-harm on previous occasions.
Aghast neighbor Crystal Hairston told how she “heard a bunch of banging … and I thought she was being physically abused so I was gonna go upstairs to help her.” She added: “My husband kicked open her door and we saw her standing there with her son next to her covered in blood and she had a knife in her hand.”
Hairston told WGRZ that she and her husband snatched the child from the apartment with the knife-wielding mother chasing them down the stairs.
She continued, “My goal was to get him (the child) out…I couldn’t leave him in that situation even if it endangered myself.”
After Hairston shut the door on Wolfford, the mother turned the knife on herself.
The unnamed child was left in horrific condition with over 50 lacerations over his body. Hairston signaled that, at first, it was impossible to determine where the child had been injured given the extent and severity of his initial wounds.
The boy, however, managed to recover and was discharged from hospital.
