Two members of the Proud Boys were convicted on Monday for defending themselves against a violent Antifa attack in New York last year.
John Kinsman and Maxwell Hare were two of 10 Proud Boys who were charged after being jumped by members of the far-left, terrorist group in October 2018. The men were exiting from a talk by the founder and former leader of the Proud Boys, Gavin McInnes, when they were immediately attacked, unprovoked, by the thugs, who were protesting the event at the Metropolitan Republican Club.
The Antifa members refused to co-operate with the authorities during the trial, and were referred to by nicknames like “Ponytail” and “Shaved Head” in an indictment. Prosecutors described McInnes as a “hatemonger”, and that the Proud Boys supposed attack on Antifa was “vicious, disproportionate and most important, unnecessary.” Jack Goldberg, Kinsman’s lawyer, argued during the trial that Antifa and the prosecutors were in cahoots:
These people aren’t the New York County district attorney’s office. They are the New York County district Antifa office.
Despite the entire brawl being caught on CCTV and cell phones, Hare and Kinsman were found guilty of attempted gang assault, riot, and attepted assault. All but 1 – who is to be tried sometime in the future – were convicted.
McInnes reacted to the news in a public statement:
And the verdict is… GUILTY. The message from the state here is either sit and take a beating or go to prison.
Enrique Tarrio, the current chairman of the Proud Boys, told National File that it was a “sour day” for freedom:
This is the perfect example of the socialist utopia the Democrats propose. The Proud Boys acted in self defense, and now these brave men are now political prisoners for the benefit of Cuomo’s reelection campaign. Today is a sad day for the justice system. To anyone who cheers for this, on either side of the political spectrum, I have a message for you: When it comes to this corrupt justice system, you are next. This isn’t a time for celebration.
The defendants were set free on bail, pending their sentencing, which could be up to 15 years.
The sentencing is yet another example of hardcore, partisan leftists controlling the justice system, and is reminiscent of the targeting of others who are fighting against the globalists, such as Tommy Robinson in the UK. Robinson is currently being kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day in prison, according to reports that say he fears being attacked by Muslim gangs while serving his 9 month sentence.
