J.D. Vance won the Ohio Republican U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday, emboldening the America First movement as it fights to assert itself in GOP nominating contests. Vance ran as an America First populist candidate and became a serious contender thanks in part to television host Tucker Carlson, who routinely features Vance on his show. President Donald Trump and Don Trump Jr. both endorsed Vance even though Vance made anti-Trump remarks during the 2016 election. As of press time, Vance had gained more than 31 percent of the primary vote to stake out a lead over state senator Matt Dolan and former state treasurer Josh Mandel, who endured a finance scandal during his campaign. Ultimately, voters in Ohio decided to trust Vance, a 37-year old author who campaigned ferociously around the state and who makes an actual effort to provide intellectual substance in his political rhetoric — a rarity in the modern arena.

J.D. Vance understands the importance of talking about the drug crisis in America. In the U.S. Senate, Vance would have an opportunity to match his rhetoric with action. In the meantime, he faces off against Democrat Tim Ryan in the general election in Ohio in November.
