Pennsylvania Lt. Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman, a Democrat, said abortion is “sacred” after Politico reported that the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade. He then called for the filibuster to be thrown out in order to codify abortion rights into law.
“Let’s be clear: The right to an abortion is sacred,” Fetterman wrote in a tweet. “Democrats have to act quickly – get rid of the filibuster to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act + finally codify Roe into law. We cannot afford to wait.”
This sentiment is not new for the Senate hopeful. When asked if there should be “any restrictions” placed on abortion at a campaign event last week, Fetterman said no.
He later implored his followers to donate to an abortion fund.
In response to his tweet, critics asked Fetterman to list the religions in which abortion is “sacred.” Others pointed out that abortion was indeed sacred to the pagan “gods” Moloch and Baal.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) was the only Democrat to vote against the “Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA)” this past February. The legislation would have invalidated nearly every pro-life law and legalized abortion up to nine months.
In addition, WHPA repeatedly refers to the “constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy.”
After the blockbuster abortion news broke Monday night, Fetterman is not the only Democrat Congressional hopeful or incumbent who has called for an end to the filibuster in response to the Roe v. Wade news.
“Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW!” wrote Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT). “And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes.”
“If #SCOTUS is going to legislate from the bench and turn back the clock 50 years on #RoeVWade, then the Senate needs to pass my Women’s Health Protection Act, and if we need to eliminate the filibuster to get it done,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).
The Supreme Court is not expected to hand down an official ruling right away, but it will over the next two months if the Politico report is correct.
