New York City leaders are spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to sponsor drag queen events at public schools, festivals, and libraries.
In just the past month, the nonprofit group “Drag Story Hour NYC” was granted $46,000 in city contracts to run cross-dressing performances across the city.
“Drag Story Hour NYC” has performed 49 events across 34 elementary, middle, and high schools over the past 6 months.
In total, the far-left group has been granted a whopping total of $207,000 in taxpayer funding since 2018.
School mother and state assembly candidate Helen Qiu was infuriated by the progressive agenda promoted in the NYC school system.
“I can’t believe this. I am shocked,” Qiu said. She explained how she has an 11-year-old middle schooler in a Manhattan public school and, “would be furious if he was exposed without my consent. This is not part of the curriculum.”
City data shows that “Drag Story Hour NYC” received $50,000 of its funding from New York’s Council on the Arts and nearly $157,000 from New York City’s Departments of Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Community Development.
The drag group faced backlash in May when a social media post showed a male performer reading middle schoolers the children’s book ‘Melissa’. The woke book’s plot covers a young boy who wants to be a girl.

While many social media users question the purpose of New York City paying cross-dressers to read to schoolchildren, city council member Jimmy Bramer praised the drag programs.
Bramer said he was “especially proud” to help the program get into the school system. “I am especially proud to support Drag Queens Story Hour, a wonderfully imaginative and inclusive program for kids that encourages acceptance and a love of reading. Drag Queen Story Hour provides all kids with a space to be themselves and to see queer role models—something I desperately needed as a kid.”
City council member Vickie Paladino had a differing opinion. “I am considering pulling funding to any school in my district that is implementing Drag Queen Story Hour,” Paladino said. “We are taking hundreds of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of hardworking New York taxpayers … to fund a program teaching little children about their gender fluidity? Not. On. My. Watch.”
