A self-identified Democrat in the state of Florida is voting for Republican governor Ron DeSantis due to the governor’s effective work during the Hurricane Ian recovery efforts. DeSantis is distinguishing himself as a national leader during the recovery effort. DeSantis is up for re-election in November 2022.
“I’m voting for DeSantis and I’m a Democrat,” the man says in the video, pointing to the fact that DeSantis has provided gas to the people of Arcadia, Florida, which has recently been ravaged by Hurricane Ian. DeSantis has spent the last week touring hard-hit areas and coordinating the state’s disaster response.
DeSantis is currently leading in the polls against Democrat Charlie Crist, and DeSantis’ response to the hurricane might propel him to an even wider poll lead and to presidential contender status — though President Donald Trump is expected to run for president again in 2024, which could push DeSantis’ possible run for the White House back to 2028.
