Video footage recorded in Ukraine shows an Orthodox Priest being fitted for an ankle monitor after being ordered to live under house arrest. The Zelensky government has made attacking Orthodox Christianity, the religion adhered to by a majority of Ukrainians, an official policy, claiming that the faithful are more likely to support the Russian cause.
Orthodox Priest Metropolitan Pavel, whose name translates in English to Metropolitan Paul, is a leading figure in the Orthodox faith community that spans the borders of Russia and Ukraine. Pavel has been ordered by the Zelensky government and its court system to vacate the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery, a revered site among the Orthodox faithful after he was accused of supporting the Russian cause in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War. He’s resisted the order to vacate, even amidst harassment from Ukrainian “security forces,” and now faces a 4-month term of house arrest.
Despite his old age and sickness with diabetes, which Pavel says should exempt him from wearing a house arrest anklet that could negatively impact his health, the Orthodox Priest has been ordered by the Zelensky government to wear it anyways.
“I am accepting this,” Pavel said just before the anklet was strapped to his body.
“Christ was crucified on the cross, so why shouldn’t I accept this?” he asked, alluding to the possible health issues he could suffer as a result of the Zelensky government’s attack on him.
Previously, Pavel has lashed out against Volodymyr Zelensky, who is Jewish, for his attacks on the Orthodox Church, and recently threatened the Ukrainian President with damnation.
“This is what Zelenskyy is doing to Priests in the Ukraine,” Matt Couch, who shared the video, posted to Twitter. “But so many of you have your head so far up the propaganda’s backside you’re wearing Blue and Yellow like good little sheep 24/7,” he added.
