Video footage from Project Veritas shows a Staten Island funeral home director casting doubt on the legitimacy of the official coronavirus death count.
The investigative report was conducted by Project Veritas in late April, and consists of interviews with multiple funeral home directors in the New York area.
New York is regarded as the U.S. epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many officials citing staggering death tolls as proof of the virus’ lethality.
Michael Lanza, the director of the Staten Island Colonial Funeral Home, told Project Veritas, “To be honest with you, all of the death certificates are writing COVID on it, they’re writing COVID on all the death certificates, whether they had a positive test, whether they didn’t,” adding that in his opinion, “the Mayor (Bill de Blasio) in our city (NYC), they’re looking for federal funding and, the more they put COVID on the death certificate the more they can ask for federal funds.”
Lanza concluded, “So I think it’s political.”
Schaefer Funeral Home Director Joseph Antioco also spoke to Project Veritas. “To me, all you’re doing is, you’re padding the uh, statistics. You know, you’re putting people on that have COVID-19, if they didn’t have it, you’re makin the death rate for New York City a lot higher than it should be,” Antioco stated.

Antioco said he believes medical examiners are writing down COVID-19 as the cause of death because they don’t want to travel to the scene and conduct a full investigation.
Josephine DiMiceli, a Queens-based funeral director, told Project Veritas that in another case, a relative of an unnamed Supreme Court justice became agitated upon learning that her sister’s death was classified as being a result of COVID-19.
“The sister refused to believe that her sister had COVID-19 and like I said, she was the one that said to me she says ‘well my cousin is you know, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, We’re gonna get an autopsy,’ and I said ‘do what you gotta do, you know’ and she did what she had to do and sure enough I called her and I said to her that the doctor signed the death certificate did the autopsy – no COVID-19.”
Reports of inflated death counts continue to circulate as government officials insist the lethality of the virus necessitates a prolonged lockdown.
