A Musk takeover has terrified certain Twitter employees. One report claimed Musk plans to lay off 75 percent of Twitter’s staff and put an end to remote work at the social media platform.
Additionally, one mainstream media outlet has feared that a Musk-owned Twitter could lead to less censorship of right-wing voices.
As National File previously reported:
ABC News published an article which suggested a Musk-owned Twitter would increase false content “with ramifications that extend to social issues like election integrity.”
Musk reportedly plans to fire as much as 75% of Twitter’s workforce should he buy out the company.
“Cuts to the content moderation workforce would align with statements made by Musk in recent months about his commitment to the principle of free speech, suggesting that Twitter should permit all speech that stops short of violating the law,” ABC News said.
It seems ABC does not support Musk, who was self-described to be a “free speech absolutist.”
The billionaire entrepreneur explained the reasoning behind his intentions to buy out Twitter in a April press release.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk began.
“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
