A teacher has been fired for handing ‘zeros’ or 0 points on assignments that weren’t turned in.
The seasoned Florida teacher, Diane Tirado, announced the firing on an uncaptioned Facebook post containing writing on a whiteboard.
Tirado was working as an eighth-grade history teacher at Westgate K-8 School in Port St. Lucie, Florida, according to Upworthy.
Diane recently gave her students two weeks to complete an Explorer notebook project, but several students simply didn’t hand it in. Since there was zero work done, Diane gave them zeros.
In a heartfelt message written on a whiteboard, Tirado wrote: “Bye kids. Mrs. Tirado loves you and wishes you the best in life. I have been fired for refusing to give you a 50 percent for not handing anything in. Love, Mrs. Tirado,” she wrote.

The disagree arose over her refusal to give 50% to work from students that hadn’t been submitted.
“A grade in Mrs. Tirado’s class is earned,” she explained.
“I’m so upset because we have a nation of kids that are expecting to get paid and live their life just for showing up and it’s not real.
“The reason I took on this fight was because it was ridiculous. Teaching should not be this hard,” Mrs Tirado admitted.
The post, which has gone viral, has left many social media users empathizing and agreeing with Mrs Tirado’s stance, while condemning the softening of contemporary education.
