Several senior US intelligence sources said CIA Director Gina Haspel is personally obstructing the declassification and Russiagate documents in the hopes President Trump will lose his re-election bid in November.
Haspel, who was the spy agency’s London station chief in 2016 and 2017 under former CIA Director John Brennan, is concerned the declassification and release of documents related to what the CIA was doing during the 2016 General Election – as well as the 2017 transition period – could not only damage the reputation of the CIA but potentially implicate Haspel herself, multiple senior US officials told reports.
“Haspel and [FBI Director Christopher] Wray both want Trump to lose, because it’s the only chance they have of keeping their jobs,” one senior intelligence official who requested anonymity said. “They’re banking on Biden winning and keeping them where they are.”
Haspel has been identified as one of the primary roadblocks to the declassification of materials proving the US intelligence community was aware of false allegations that Trump colluded with Russia prior to the 2016 General Election.

President Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, released a declassified summary last week that revealed Russian intelligence officials knew former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton planned to smear Mr. Trump as a Russian operative to distract from the Clinton’s simmering e-mail scandal.
The declassified information evidences that Clinton hired a foreign agent who was working for a sanctioned but connected Russian to spread false rumors about the Trump campaign. One of the primary sources of the collusion narrative was suspected by the FBI of being a Russian spy.
“It’s far more important for Haspel to block any embarrassment of herself or her agency than to have full transparency and accountability,” one senior intelligence official told reporters. “She’s just hoping she can get past the election so the documents will never come out. This is not a source protection issue, it’s an embarrassment issue.”
These same senior intelligence officials allege that Haspel has repeatedly lied to the White House about document status, saying Haspel has repeatedly offered unsubstantiated excuses for her failure to produce specific documents. At one point Haspel falsely claimed she can’t physically locate documents.
“Haspel has repeatedly lied to the President about the status of documents to be declassified,” one intelligence source said. “She will claim they don’t know where they are, or which agency technically owns them, and then we’ll find out she had them the entire time and just didn’t want them to see the light of day.”
