The victim of the fatal Capitol shooting today has been identified as Ashli Babbit, a 14-year veteran of the Air Force from San Diego.
Babbit was named as the victim of the Capitol shooting by KUSI News, a local station in San Diego, where she lived.
KUSI News has spoken to her husband. Babbit was a 14-year veteran of the Air Force, served four tours, and was a “high-level security officer” throughout her service. Her husband described her as a “strong supporter of President Trump, and a great patriot to all who knew her.”
#KUSINews has confirmed the identity of the woman shot and killed inside US Capitol.

National File reported on Babbit’s death earlier today. An eyewitness said that the police officers moved out of the way of the door of the Senate chambers: a window was broken in the Capitol Building, and Babbit started to climb up, and was shot by a “man in the suit”:
As she had both feet in the windowsill, her hands were on the sides of the window, a man inside, not a uniform, he had a suit on, fired one shot, hitting her up in this region somewhere [indicates to neck]. She fell out of the window. The police that were there would not let me assist. I am trained in emergency medical services. They would not let me assist… They pushed me out of the way, and I stood there and I watched this young woman die.
Graphic videos showing the aftermath of the shooting were posted to Twitter, showing Babbit bleeding profusely from the neck.

Another eyewitness also recounted what happened to Babbit to reporters:
We stormed into the chambers inside, and there was a young lady who rushed to the windows. A number of police and secret service were saying ‘get back, get down, get out of the way’. She didn’t heed the call, and as we raced up to grab people and pull them back, they shot her in the neck, and she fell back on me. She started saying, ‘it’s fine, it’s cool,’ and then she started moving weird, and blood was coming out of her mouth and neck and nose. I don’t know if she’s alive or dead any more… Riot police came in, and started ushering us out with sticks…
We need some kind of investigation into this…. Someone might have ended up dead, and that’s not the kind of government we can have. People have to do something about it… It could have been me, but she went in first. Just make sure people know, because this cannot stand any more. This is wrong. They don’t represent anyone, not Republican, Democrat, Independent, nobody, and now they’ll just kill people. Police, congressmen and women, they don’t care… It was a joke to them until we came inside, and then the guns came out. This cannot be allowed to stand. People have to do something, because this could be you or your kids.

Babbit was mourned by many conservatives on social media. “RIP Ashli Babbit,” wrote Michelle Malkin. A #SayHerName campaign has started on Twitter for Babbit.
