NATIONAL FILE senior reporter Patrick Howley singlehandedly revealed Media Matters executive Angelo Carusone’s blog in a 2014 article, before Conservative Inc. media ripped the story off from Howley and stole the credit from him. The story is re-emerging in the news cycle as X owner Elon Musk pursues a lawsuit against Media Matters for America, which tried to portray X as a hate site. Carusone is now the president of Media Matters, which was previously run by Hillary Clinton operative David Brock.
In 2014, Patrick Howley exclusively reported for The Daily Caller: “A top executive at Media Matters for America and the principal activist in the “Stop Rush” campaign made racist and anti-Semitic comments and disparaged “trannies” on a dormant blog that he wrote just several years prior to his prominent liberal activism career. Blog entries reviewed by The Daily Caller show that Angelo Carusone made derogatory remarks about ethnic groups and used language to insult “trannies” and ugly “gays” that would be considered hate speech by his own organization.”
The story was a good demonstration of how leftist speech monitors are actually oftentimes hypocrites who write things that they themselves would try to censor if a conservative wrote them. Howley’s story was a big hit at the time, as talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh was defending himself against leftist smear campaigns.
As with many of Howley’s scoops, the Angelo Carusone story got ripped off. In 2019, after Howley had left the Daily Caller, a little twerp named Peter Hasson ripped off Howley’s story and tried to steal the credit. By then, the Daily Caller was under the editorship of Geoff Ingersoll, who is best known for ranting vulgar sexist slurs at America First journalist Cassandra Fairbanks before Ingersoll deleted his meltdown.
Even the Washington Post noted Hasson’s thievery in 2019, reporting: “The bill of goods against Carusone in the Daily Caller’s story this week isn’t much different from the one in the Daily Caller’s October 2014 story under the headline: “Media Matters Executive Wrote Racist, Anti-Semitic, Anti-‘Tranny’ Blog Posts.'”
Hasson, who now works for Fox News (of course) is actually getting credit from Zero Hedge and others for breaking the story even though he simply stole it from Howley.
In ridiculous scumbag fashion, Hasson’s then-Daily Caller colleague Amber Athey wrote an entire profile of Hasson with the headline “Meet The 23 Year Old Who Uncovered Media Matters’ Angelo Carusone’s Blogs About ‘Trannies,’ ‘Japs.'” Buried in Athey’s dishonest article is the line: “After stumbling across a Daily Caller post from 2014 detailing some nasty things Carusone said in his personal blog, Hasson posited that there was more to dig up.”
The Daily Caller under Ingersoll is known for trying to rip off Howley’s content. Then-Daily Caller shill and well-known plagiarist Benny Johnson left the Daily Caller under mysterious circumstances after he was caught trying to rip Howley’s credit off of Howley’s exclusive Ralph Northam blackface/KKK costume scoop. Benny Johnson continues to shill for Conservative Inc.
As usual, Conservative Inc. proves that they have no shame.
