A newly released Morning Consult poll conducted on March 3-5, 2023, shows President Trump has expanded his lead in the 2024 GOP Primary over Governor DeSantis. The newly released Morning Consult poll also shows Donald Trump leading Joe Biden by 1 point in the 2024 general election. In the same poll, DeSantis trails Biden by 4 points in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup.
According to Morning Consult Polling data, Donald Trump has expanded his lead on Ron DeSantis by 15 points since January 2nd, 2023. Morning Consult polling released on January 2nd had Trump 45% (+11), DeSantis 34%, Pence 8% and Haley 3%. The latest Morning Consult Poll conducted on March 3rd-5th has Trump 53% (+25), DeSantis 28%, Pence 7% and Haley 4%.
The newly released Morning Consult Poll shows Trump with a significant lead in the “Favorability Index” with GOP Primary voters. GOP voters provided Trump with an 80 percent favorability rating. DeSantis received a favorability rating of 66 percent.
In a hypothetical 2024 matchup, Trump leads Biden by 1 point and DeSantis trails Biden by 4 points. In addition, the newest Morning Consult Polling data is Ron DeSantis’ worst showing since Morning Consult began polling the Florida Governor’s presidential aspirations in December of 2022.

Trump talked about his polling numbers on Truth Social. “Polls show me doing substantially better against Hopeless Joe Biden than DeSanctus would do. An early forerunner would be the 2020 Election where I did much better than in 2016, getting more votes than any sitting President in History. That Election, however, was massively Rigged. They used the China Virus, the FBI, Twitter, Facebook, and Ballot Stuffing in order to cheat. Good Republicans won’t let that happen again!” the 45th President wrote.
DeSantis has yet to announce his run for president officially, but many political insiders believe it’s only a matter of time before the Florida governor formally announces his run.
The first GOP primary debate will occur this August in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Milwaukee is also the location of the 2024 GOP Convention.
