Vice President and failed 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared to forget the Pledge of Allegiance as she opened Friday’s ceremony to swear in the Senators of the 119th Congress.
“I pledge allegiance to the United States of America,” she said, forgetting the words “to the flag.”
Some X users speculated that Harris was drunk during the event:
“Kamala Harris is just one heartbeat away from becoming our next president and yet she can’t remember the pledge of allegiance, said popular X user @amuse. “Perhaps it is because she grew up in Canada and hates America? Perhaps she’s drunk? Perhaps she’s stupid. We may never know.”

“It looks like Kamala Harris showed up to the Senate floor DRUNK,” said another. “She just screwed up the pledge of allegiance. Some people really waited in line to vote for this imbecilic witch.”
After the gaffe, Harris managed to recover and recite the rest of the Pledge without incident.
Her next public challenge will come on Monday, when she will certify the election of President-Elect Donald Trump, who beat her handily in November’s election.
Harris’ antics during her campaign led to speculation of alcoholism. Several clips were posted during her run for president where she appeared impaired.
Here is one from August…
OH MY GOSH! It’s all starting to make sense. Kamala Harris is a raging alcoholic because there’s no good explanation for having moments like this on Live TV

…and another from July:
More and more clips of Kamala Harris delivering remarks while drunk and/or high are surfacing. Question remains: Can she stay on the wagon until the election? pic.twitter.com/huU5nk3L1h

There is no word on Harris’ future political aspirations, but Democrat strategists say she has options.
“She still has a long career ahead of her,” Democratic strategist Kate Maeder told The Hill days after Harris’ loss. “She’s young for politics in this country, and I think that folks are really excited to see what she does next, because she’s built such a powerful following around her, and I think that that will carry through after the election.”
