Joe Biden and Kamala Harris gave speeches at the Capitol building on Thursday, one year after protests at the U.S. Capitol led to the shooting death of unarmed protester Ashli Babbitt.
Biden and Harris were not there to commemorate that, however, and instead repeated the baseless lies that Capitol police officers were murdered by the crowd.
Harris even compared the protests to Pearl Harbor and 9/11.
“Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly, remind all who have lived through them, where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault,” Harris began.
“Dates that occupy, not only a place on our calendars, but a place in our collective memory. December 7th, 1941, September 11th 2001 and January 6th, 2021,” Harris continued.
She then baselessly asserted that the crowd’s intention was to murder lawmakers.

Jen Psaki defended the comparisons during the daily White House press briefing.
“Back in 1861 there were no confederate flags being waved in the Capitol. In very dark moments in our history there were not people storming the Capitol,” Psaki said.
“Instead of focusing on or analyzing comparisons of moments in history, I would suggest that they be a part of solving the threats on Democracy that occurs today, that happens today,” she continued.
During the 2020 BLM riots, Kamala Harris bailed out rioters with her contributions to the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

Both Biden and Harris repeated the baseless claim that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was murdered by the crowd. It has long been confirmed that Sicknick died of natural causes after suffering two strokes.
The New York Times had initially reported that Sicknick was “beaten to death with a fire extinguisher”, a baseless claim that was breathlessly covered by the mainstream media. Despite this, Biden referenced the “multiple officers” who died following the protests despite the fact that zero officers were killed.
This is a claim that was repeated by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“Those who stormed this Capitol, and those who instigated and incited, and those who called on those to do so, held a dagger at the throat of America,” yelled Biden in his speech. “We must decide, what kind of nation are we going to be? Are we going to be a nation that accepts political violence as a norm?”
“You can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t obey the law only when it’s convenient. You can’t be patriotic when you embrace and enable lies,” Biden said.
On the campaign trail, Biden referred to Trump as “illegitimate” and credited the Russian government for his victory.
