A Las Vegas high schooler died Sunday after going into cardiac arrest in a school bathroom days earlier.
Jordan Brister, an 18-year-old high school senior at Amplus Academy, was hospitalized on Jan. 3 after he collapsed in a bathroom, local news reported.
Brister, whose family said had no medical history or drug usage, received chest compressions and had an automated external defibrillator (AED) used on him before being rushed to the hospital.
After collapsing, the student was not found in the bathroom for 25 minutes, according to 8 News Now.
Rachel Hulet, Amplus Academy’s executive director, released a statement mourning Brister on Tuesday. “Amplus staff provided Jordan with emergency medical attention until paramedics arrived and transported him to Southern Hills Hospital. Despite the efforts of first responders and the medical team at the hospital, Jordan passed away this past Sunday,” Hulet wrote.

Brister’s family described Jordan as selfless and caring. The senior in high school intended to join the military after graduating.
A GoFundMe was organized “to help the Brister family pay for his final farewell during this very painful time.” After creating the fundraiser four days ago, over $40,000 has been raised for the family.
This is the second time this month that a Las Vegas high schooler has died unexpectedly. Ashari Hughes, a 16-year-old reportedly suffered a medical emergency while playing in a flag football game, which ultimately led to her death.
