The outcome of Wednesday’s much-vaunted impeachment trial was hardly surprising, and even the key players seemed to be sleepwalking through the process.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-TN) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appeared particularly dispassionate during their closing remarks and thanks to Senatorial staff.
The only people who are particularly excited about Wednesday’s acquittal vote are people on social media.
Supporters of President Donald Trump are unduly excited, while progressive “Resistance” voices are outraged by the result of a vote that pretty much everyone saw coming.
The former doesn’t make for particularly exciting reading, so we compiled a list of the latter to showcase some of the most humorous instances of Twitter salt.
The 48 Senators who found Trump GUILTY represent 18 million MORE people than the 52 who voted not guilty.

Mind-blowing stat: 48 Senators who voted to convict Trump represent 18 million more Americans than 52 Republicans who voted to acquit

Today’s vote by the Senate on impeachment in no way exonerates President Trump. My statement: pic.twitter.com/cckIG4pQ39

Salt levels escalating.
Imagine having the constitutional power — and duty — to hold the president accountable.
Then imagine abandoning that responsibility in the name of party politics.
It’s shameful that the Senate GOP abandoned its constitutional duty.

BREAKING: 52 GOP Senators just committed treason, voting not guilty for crimes Trump committed. A majority of the American people, a majority of Congress and the US Gov’t found Trump guilty. This trial was a sham. But Trump is still impeached forever. #AmericansFindTrumpGuilty

The journalist who unsuccessfully tried to swindle Target out of a toothbrush for $1 and harass an employee online also weighed in.
Let’s impeach him again. God knows he’s committed enough crimes. #AmericansFindTrumpGuilty

Salt levels reaching terminal capacity.
Congratulations to the 52 senators who voted not guilty. You just told a racist child-caging warmongering psychopath with poor impulse control that there are zero consequences for his actions.

To be clear: a rich, privileged, powerful white man just got “tried” in court that ended in him being found not guilty — with overwhelming evidence to the contrary, a jury that was skewed in his favor before hearing a word.
This is America in its truest, most familiar form. https://t.co/c0HoHpZABJ

When a completely corrupt SWAMP of old white men "acquit" a shameless criminal, its total BS. TRUMP WAS IMPEACHED. He is ashamed & invalidated no matter how much they lie. This is fake as fuck. Trump is fake as fuck and we can all see it. 30% of this country is racist as fuck
