After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB1557, the Parental Rights in Education Bill, the reaction from various outlets of left-wing thought and propaganda has been unhinged. Far-left network MSNBC decided to interview a Florida kindergarten teacher named Cory Bernaert, who is gay, about his feelings toward the new law. The gay Florida teacher took issue with how the law will interfere with his ability to discuss his sex life with kindergarten students.

Bernaert mentions that the new law “hits hard, in my heart professionally and personally.” He elaborated further that “professionally, it truly makes me feel that I am not trusted as a professional. I know my kindergarten standards through and through, and nowhere in our curriculum does it have anything about teaching sexual orientation or sexual identity, so for them to say that’s happening, it’s kinda crazy…”
While Bernaert himself may not be explicitly promoting or teaching these subjects to his students, he and the MSNBC host fail to mention that things such as this do happen, as was the case with the daughter of January Littlejohn. Littlejohn spoke at Governor DeSantis’ press conference after HB1557 was signed into law. She gave emotional testimony about how her daughter’s school created a “transgender-gender nonconforming support plan” in a closed-door meeting with her daughter without her knowledge or consent.

During her speech, Ms. Littlejohn mentioned that she has been informed about other similar examples of parental rights being trampled by public schools. This directly contradicts the viewpoints shared on this MSNBC segment.
The gay Florida teacher went on to talk about how teachers build relationships with their students, and how he can’t talk about what he and his “partner” do on weekends. “I don’t want to have to hide that my partner and I went paddle boarding this weekend”, he lamented.
While it can be debated whether or not a teacher should be talking to their students about “weekend paddle boarding”, this is a misinterpretation of the law. In order to clarify that the law only pertains to “lessons”, several of the Florida Republicans who were in on the bill amended the bill to reflect that fact.

The coverage of the legislation has been dishonest, as can be seen from this MSNBC segment. The narrative of the “Don’t say gay” bill was misleading from the very start. From this segment, it can be implied that even a public-school teacher in Florida, someone to whom the law impacts directly, either does not know what the law allows for, or wants to hide something more nefarious about what happens in his classroom and in others.
