Naughty Dog Vice President Neil Druckmann has come under fire recently after several leaks of the upcoming Last of Us 2 painted the game in a bad light.
Now, Druckmann reportedly became emotional when playing the game–which has been routinely mocked on social media since its game play was leaked–and previously suggesting that he did not want certain people buying the game.
One Angry Gamer reported that Druckmann was “heartbroken” following the leaks as disgruntled developers took retaliatory action for a highly politicized environment. One Angry Gamer, in light of the leaks, went onto report: “However, [Druckmann] hopes that “fans” are still excited enough to buy the controversial sequel, but not sexist, racist, bigots according to one of his Instagram stories.”
Druckmann went onto post a quote from Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, which read:
At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color, or woman, please do this one favor for us—leave us the f**k alone! Don’t come to our shows, and don’t buy our records
The ‘Last of Us 2’ leaks depicted female characters to look more androgynous. National File reported:
According to another AAA developer, the push to give characters a more androgynous look has become a recent addition to many games.
Sausage Roll reported:
The characters in The Last of Us Part II are designed in such a way to not make trans people feel uncomfortable. Every single new character introduced in the sequel does not have definitive feminine or masculine qualities.
Ellie and Dina, specifically, have been remodelled to look less feminine. It even seems as if they Ellie has completely changed since they first revealed her in The Last of Us Part II.
According to Bounding Over Comics, Druckmann recalled getting emotional while playing the game: “We are still emotionally moved. I’ve just finished a play through and I was crying by the end of it.”
Prior to divulging his teary sentiments, Druckmann had said: “I know I’ve said this before, but you won’t know until what degree until you get your hands on it. And just see the care. The care that has gone into every detail. From the level design to the mechanics, just graphically how the game looks, environments, art direction, characters, stories, audio design, the soundtrack. Oh my god the soundtrack is so amazing.”
Although the Naughty Dog vice president defiantly excludes the haters, there appears to be a dearth of positive remarks for the game, which is set to be released next month.
