Freedom Caucus Representative Bob Good (VA-5) has endorsed Sandy Smith for Congress in North Carolina’s battleground 1st District, which the America First candidate is looking to flip from blue to red. Smith will face Democrat nominee Don Davis in November’s midterm election. Davis is the chosen successor of outgoing Democrat G.K. Butterfield, who says he is certain that his pick can be trusted to carry on the “Democratic agenda.”
Sandy Smith secured the 1st District’s GOP nomination to Congress back in May, besting the McCarthy-aligned, Democrat donor and Rocky Mount Mayor, Sandy Roberson, in that contest. During the primary season, Smith was endorsed by General Michael Flynn, as well as Trump ICE Director Tom Homan. Now, she can add Freedom Caucus Rep. Bob good to her growing list of prominent America First backers.
“Sandy Smith is the kind of fighter and patriot that we need in Congress defending our Republic against the Biden Administration,” Rep. Bob Good, who has been at the forefront of the election integrity and anti-tyranny movements, said in his endorsement of Smith. “She has the guts and the determination to make a difference,” Good continued, before lauding Smith as an “America First fighter.”
“Sandy will be an excellent America First fighter in Congress, and she will battle every day for election integrity, fiscal sanity, gun rights, and jobs for Americans….and AGAINST the Biden Agenda. Sandy has the right experience as a business owner, as a wife and mother, and as a military mom; and she will bring the right values to Congress.”
“The people of North Carolina’s 1st District are fortunate to have a fighter like Sandy Smith, and I am proud to enthusiastically endorse her for Congress,” Good said, sealing his endorsement of Smith.

As mentioned, Sandy Smith will face Democrat State Senator Don Davis in November’s midterm election, the hand-chosen successor of longtime Democrat incumbent G.K. Butterfield. Butterfield says he trusts Davis to carry on the Biden-sponsored “Democratic agenda” should he make it to Washington, and Davis is already proving himself in North Carolina’s state legislature. Recently, he publicly opposed and voted against the state’s parental bill of rights, meant to block schools from teaching far-left gender and sexuality studies to children in grades K-3.
In an interview with local media, Davis vowed to vote with his party to codify Roe v. Wade, in an effort to circumvent the Supreme Court’s ruling granting jurisdiction over abortion back to the states under the US Constitution. He also supported further US involvement in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian Conflict.
“If given the opportunity to serve in this capacity, I will vote to codify Roe v. Wade,” Davis told CBS17. “This is personal. It’s near and dear to me.”
The 1st District, which encompasses most of northeastern North Carolina, reliably supported its Democrat nominee for Congress until Trump-aligned Sandy Smith ran in 2020, doubling the vote total of her GOP nominee predecessor and coming within striking distance of the longtime Democrat incumbent and the massive partisan infrastructure behind him. This year, after redrawing based on the 2020 Census left the district more evenly split, Smith looks poised to claim the battleground seat, where growing resentment towards Joe Biden’s radically left-wing agenda and dismal economic record could lead to a historic flip from blue to red.
