Anthony Fauci, who has been the Director of the NIAID since 1984, told Chuck Todd of NBC News’ Meet The Press that mask wearing could become a permanent feature of fall weather, and questionably claimed that the flu was almost totally eradicated by mask wearing for COVID-19.
Todd asked, Fauci, “At what point can we stop wearing masks outside,” despite the CDC already saying that vaccinated people could go outside without face masks. Still, Todd continued, “At what point, if vaccinated people get together, do you take the mask off? Are masks going to be something we have with us in a seasonal aspect?”
Fauci replied, “You know, that’s quite possible, I think people have gotten used to the fact that wearing masks, clearly if you look at the data, diminished respiratory diseases. We’ve had practically a nonexistent flu season this year, merely because people were doing the kinds of public health things that were directed predominantly against COVID-19.” He went on to claim that “the Australians, during their winter, same thing, they had almost no flu, largely due to the kinds of things, including mask wearing. So it is conceivable that as we go on, a year or two or more from now, that during certain seasonal periods when you have respiratory borne viruses like the flu, people might actually elect to wear masks to diminish the likelihood that you’ll spread these diseases.”
Australia infamously became one of the most harshest lockdown countries on the planet, with helicopters being used to locate and fine people camping alone in the Australian outback when they were meant to be sequestered at home.
The very next question appeared to exemplify an inconsistency, as Chuck Todd proceeded to ask if Americans could finally let their guard down, as he claims they did in May of 2020. Todd’s question would seem to indicate that 2020 saw the spread of COVID-19 because of the lack of adherence to COVID-19 precautions like social distancing, lockdowns, and mask wearing, only seconds after Fauci suggested that the 2020 flu season was greatly diminished because of social distancing, lockdowns, and mask wearing.
Fauci has repeatedly given confusing and seemingly unscientific advice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Early in the pandemic, Fauci urged Americans not to wear face masks, instead suggesting that only sick people and medical professionals should wear them. Later, he began urging all Americans wear face masks, and later suggested Americans wear two face masks at once.
Last month, Fauci was completely incapable of responding to questions from Rep. Jim Jordan, who questioned why Fauci’s mandates appear to only apply to legal U.S. citizens, and not illegal immigrants who are flocking into the country under Biden, only to be kept in extremely crowded facilities, at some points over 1,000% over capacity.
Earlier last month, Fauci declared that it was “still not okay” for vaccinated people to eat and drink indoors, and blamed children for the spread of COVID-19. He even went as far as to declare that children must not be allowed to play together while unmasked until all children have been vaccinated.
Fauci also became emotional in March of this year, and appeared on television for an exasperated interview when Republican states began disregarding his guidelines and ending mask mandates. Despite Fauci’s predictions, the states that have ended their mask mandates did not see massive spikes in COVID-19 cases or deaths.
In February of this year, it resurfaced that Fauci – who became a pariah among the LGBT community during the worst years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic – used to troll gay bathhouses and bars in the 1980s in a bid to see the transmission of HIV in real time.
