Elizabeth Warren vowed that if she was elected the first female president of the United States, she would make more than half her cabinet women or non-binary.
In a Medium post, the presidential hopeful promised that her administration would make headway in the realm of diversity and inclusion, discussing how new government officials would be appointed in light of the recent Trump Impeachment.
Currently, Donald Trump’s cabinet has four women out of 23 members.
Among her pledges, she said she would “build a Cabinet and senior leadership team that reflects the full diversity of America, including having at least 50% of Cabinet positions filled by women and non binary people.”
She also pledged to “ensure representation of LGBTQ+ people across all levels of government, including in leadership roles.”
Warren blasts the lack of diversity and inclusion in the Trump Administration, suggesting that she would have her government reflect America’s changing demographics.
She wrote, “Our government officials can best serve the American public when they reflect the diversity of the country itself.
“The federal government does a dismal job on diversity and inclusion … my administration will be committed to diversity and inclusion, starting on day one.”
She went onto promise to diversify recruitment for public service jobs by doing more to include “historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, and other minority-serving institutions.”
She would also “Create new paid fellowship programs for federal jobs for people from marginalized communities and low-income applicants, including formerly incarcerated individuals.”
Aside from reviving a focus on raising the number of employees with disabilities in Federal service, Warren signaled that she wished to “open up promotion pathways by requiring every federal agency to incorporate diversity as part of their core strategic plan and creating support networks through a government-wide mentorship program that centers Black and Brown employees.”
Another proposal from Elizabeth Warren, which has not been included in the recent Medium piece, has been to offer taxpayer-funded gender reassignment treatment to veterans.
