Democrat Senators Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer released a statement urging Joe Biden to “cancel student loan debt” the morning after he said he wouldn’t cancel $50,000 in debt during a CNN Presidential Town Hall.
It appears that the Democratic Party is dissatisfied with Biden. On the campaign trail, Biden had previously said “I will eliminate your student loan debt” while offering $10,000 worth of debt relief. Many supporters who want student loan debt relief have argued that this is not sufficient, given real cost of a college education.
“Presidents Obama and Trump used their executive authority to cancel student loan debt,” wrote the two Democrat senators.
Despite Bidens refusals, Democrats “are confident” that the Biden Administration “will agree with the standards Obama and Trump” had used when they were President and take “executive action” to cancel $50,000 in debt.

When asked about cancelling up to $50,000 dollars in student loan debt during a CNN Presidential Town Hall last night, Biden replied “I will not make that happen.”

To the displeasure of this party, Biden claims that he will eliminate $10,000 in student loan debt. However, top Democrats are demanding five times that.
“Cancelling $50,000 in federal student loan debt will help close the racial wealth gap, benefit the 40% of borrowers who do not have a college degree, and help stimulate the economy,” wrote Warren and Schumer.
“It’s time to act. We will keep fighting.”
It should be noted that Warren and Schumer both voted to convict President Donald Trump for using a similar phrase, “fight like hell,” just days ago, baselessly accusing the President of “inciting a mob” on January 6 in what is now their second failed attempt at impeaching him. Americans are left wondering why the two Senators would release a statement that contains language that they themselves consider to be impeachment-worthy.
As the list of Biden betrayals to his base continues to grow in the first month of his presidency, Biden voters are slowly starting to realize what they signed up for.
