Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) called the Supreme Court “illegitimate” after Politico leaked a draft ruling detailing the court’s plans to strike down Roe v. Wade. Markey has repeatedly referred to the January 6 protest as an “insurrection.”
“A stolen, illegitimate, and far-right Supreme Court majority appears set to destroy the right to abortion, an essential right which protects the health, safety, and freedom of millions of Americans,” Markey wrote in a tweet. “There is no other recourse. We must expand the court.”
Ed Markey has repeatedly referred to anyone who questions the validity of the 2020 election as an “insurrectionist” who needs to be prosecuted. “I will be a juror in Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, but I was also a witness to the insurrection,” Markey wrote on January 13, 2021. “We don’t need a weeks-long trial to determine that he committed high treason. We saw Trump’s betrayal of his oath of office and impeachable actions on live television.”

Ed Markey is not the only Democratic Senator to call for an end to the filibuster after they didn’t get their way. Numerous Democrat Senators, including Bernie Sanders and Tammy Baldwin, have called for similar action since the Roe news broke.
Court packing has also been resuscitated on the left as large numbers have joined Ed Markey in calling things that don’t go their way “illegitimate.” Many were quick to point out that Markey’s tweet and similar statements is represents sharp deviation from leftist rhetoric on “Democratic norms” and comparisons of January 6 to Pearl Harbor, which have been commonplace for over a year.

Abortion is just about abortion.

The draft opinion in question was written by Justice Samuel Alito in February. The Court has declined to verify the document, according to Fox News.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the document, labeled the “Opinion of the Court” for the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
