Matthew McConaughey criticized people who don’t wear face masks on “The Carlos Watson Show, referring to mask-wearing as a “short-term inconvenience for a long-term freedom.”
The New York Post reported that “Matthew McConaughey thinks anti-maskers are not alright, not alright, not alright.” McConaughey said, “I’m like going come on, man – I’m not believing that you’re really scared of this little cotton thing,” the Oscar-winning actor and potential Texas gubernatorial candidate said in a recent appearance on “The Carlos Watson Show.”
“We’ve got to make some sacrifices for larger rewards tomorrow,” McConaughey said, explaining that he is not convinced that Americans truly feel that their freedoms have been limited through “politicized” government mask mandates. “And I’m not believing that you really feel that takes away your identity and your freedom. This is a short-term inconvenience for long-term freedom,” said McConaughey.
“There’s no data that says it’s not a good thing, no data that says it’s harmful,” McConaughey said. “Let’s all take one for the team here. And we all like to say we want to take one for the team, we like to say oh, the value of a human life is the epitome … no it’s not. We won’t admit it.”
The actor is currently considering a run for Texas Governor in 2022, and polls show him leading over the current Governor Greg Abbott. “The Dallas Morning News and University of Texas at Tyler found 45 percent of Texans would pick the actor, while 33 percent would vote for Abbott. But 56 percent of Republicans would vote for Abbott, while 30 percent would vote for McConaughey, the poll found,” the New York Post reported.
“I’m not interested in going and putting a bunch of band-aids on that are going to be ripped off as soon as I’m out,” the actor explained to Watson. “I’m interested in building something that can last and I’m measuring what category that is, and I don’t know if that’s politics.”
Despite Texas House Republicans repeatedly calling the 2021 session the “most conservative in history,” Republicans have worked with Democrats to kill legislative efforts at banning child chemical castration, as National File reported. “Among the bills that Republicans killed were legislative efforts to end taxpayer-funded lobbying, ban social media companies from silencing conservatives, prevent biological boys from playing in girls’ sports, and outlaw sex change surgeries and controversial hormone therapist for children – all of which have strong support amongst Texas Republican voters.”
