Stanley Lambert, a 22-year-old college football player with the ASU Sun Devils, has been slapped with DUI-related charges after a fatal crash. Lambert allegedly struck and killed a 23-year-old New Jersey woman while driving drunk, law enforcement officials said.
Lambert reportedly struck and killed Norah Bruther as she tried to cross Camelback Road just after 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Bruther was visiting the Scottsdale area and was staying with a friend at the time of the incident, a Scottsdale Police Department spokesperson told Fox 10 Phoenix. Following the fatal crash, the college football player was arrested and “booked for one count each of DUI – Impaired to the Slightest Degree and DUI – BAC of .08% or more.”
Bruther graduated from Bethlehem, PA’s Moravian University in 2020, where she played soccer for three years. The 23-year-old was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
ASU’s athletics department issued a statement shortly after Lambert was arrested. “We are aware of the tragic situation over the weekend involving one of our student-athletes,” an ASU spokesperson said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all involved. We are still gathering information and we do not have any other statement at this time.”
Lambert is a junior and hails from San Antonio. He has played two seasons for ASU, according to KPNX-TV.
