When Andrew Cuomo asked fellow CNN talk show host Don Lemon onto his show Monday night, he never expected that Lemon would call for the dismantling of the Electoral College, but that’s exactly what happened when the subject turned to filling the vacancy left on the US Supreme Court with the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), have both indicated that they are moving forward with their constitutionally mandated filling of the vacancy on the US Supreme Court. This has sent the ideological Left into a politically motivated, intellectual tailspin.
When the topic turned to the Senate GOP filling Ginsburg’s seat before the November Election, Lemon became visibly determined to effect retribution against the move.

“We’re going to have to blow up the entire system,” Lemon said to Cuomo who insisted all that was needed was for Democrats to turn out on Election Day.
“You know what we’re going to have to do?…You’re going to have to get rid of the Electoral College, because the minority in this country get to decide who our judges are and who our president is. Is that fair?”
Cuomo reminded the high-spirited Lemon that a constitutional amendment would be needed to so radically change the fabric of the American governmental system. “And if Joe Biden wins, Democrats can stack the courts and they can do that amendment and get it passed,” Lemon shot back.
Lemon’s line of thought is based on the erroneous assumption that the United States is a democracy where the majority rules. The United States is, in fact, a Constitutional Republic where the rights of the minority are protected by the rule of law and a process of checks and balances, the Electoral College being one.
