Drag Queen story times are beginning to take the West by storm.
The events, where drag queens read to children, often in a public place, has been subject of much controversy in recent years.
Public libraries have offered themselves up as venues for story times, provoking questions about the use of public funds to host politically loaded events.
Drag Queen story times have been held in many states–regardless of political affiliation.
In one event, snipers were seen guarding the readers of the story hour as Christian activists protested outside.
ABC 10 News reports:
The weekend vandalism at a Chula Vista church is being investigated as a hate crime by police, and a pastor believes his church was targeted because of their strong opposition to the city-run children’s event known as “Drag Queen Storytime.”
Holy music filled the halls at South Bay Pentecostal Church Sunday, but the walls outside sang a different tune.
“Sure enough, at every corner there were phrases, hateful words, and graffiti on the walls of our church,” Executive Pastor Amado Huizar said.
Huizar quickly covered up the symbols and messages associated with Satan. He said that “there is no doubt” the church was targeted.
For the last two weeks, Huizar has been outspoken about his opposition to the Chula Vista Library-sanctioned Drag Queen Storytime event.
Huizar has expressed progressive views sympathetic with openness and tolerance, but believes the story telling events aren’t age appropriate.
There were also concerns of a misallocation of taxpayer resources in hosting the event.
Two men with spray cans were seen leaving a parked sedan at 3:00 am on Sunday, before returning fifteen minutes later, on the premises’ surveillance cameras.
Huizar notified the police and filed a hate crime report.
The executive pastor admitted that he felt sad but undeterred by what happened.
