A New York man who was arrested in connection with a violent carjacking in Montgomery County is a potential suspect in a string of sexual assaults and beatings targeting women in the Philadelphia area. Malcolm White, 36, was arrested Thursday night in Whitepain Township, about an hour outside Philadelphia.
Police say White pulled a woman from her car in a violent carjacking on Thursday. According to authorities, the carjacking took place in the parking lot of Henkels and McCoy on Jolly Road, where the victim worked.
The victim told police that the attacker put her in a chokehold that caused her to briefly lose consciousness. When she awoke, she saw the man inside her car and ran back to her workplace, Fox 29 Philadelphia reported.
The man, described as a 5-foot-7 Black man wearing a yellow shirt and long pants, left the parking lot on foot by the time officers arrived. Police later identified the suspect as he was jogging down Jolly Road.
White attempted to evade police by hiding in the woods, but he was soon apprehended. He faces several charges in relation to the carjacking.
Fox 29’s Steve Keeley later reported that Malcom White was released from prison in January. While inside, he garnered a reputation for assaulting female guards.
In addition, Philadelphia law enforcement officials say White is also accused of stalking and sexually assaulting a woman in the vestibule of her workplace on Thursday morning.
Chief Inspector Frank Vanore told reporters that the victim, a woman in her 20s, was followed by an attacker after exiting the bus in Roxborough.
The attacker followed the women inside her workplace where he physically and sexually assaulted her. The victim’s phone was stolen in the assault, which police tracked to Whitepain where they learned about White’s arrest.
Investigators in Philadelphia are also looking at White as a potential suspect in at least two other attacks on women a day earlier.
A disturbing doorbell camera captured a man — potentially White — walking up behind three South Philadelphia women before brutally assaulting them. All three of the women were beaten up before a bystander chased the attacker off.

Vanore said the attack left a 29-year-old victim with a broken nose and the two other women with swollen lips and facial lacerations.
About 20 minutes later, police say a woman in her 30’s was assaulted knocked unconscious while sitting outside a property in South Philadelphia.
