An Iowan woman who caucused for Pete Buttigieg wanted to change her vote after being told the former Democrat Mayor of South Bend was gay.
In a video posted online, the voter was distraught after finding out that Buttigieg was gay. “Are you saying that he has a same sex partner? Are you kidding?” the woman asked. “I don’t want anybody like that in the White House. So can I have my card back?”
Nikki van den Heever, the precinct captain for Buttigieg, tried to convince the woman that it didn’t matter that Buttigieg was gay at all.
“The whole point of it is though, is that he’s a human being, right, just like you and me, and it shouldn’t really matter,” she said.
The woman said Buttigieg should read the Bible, with Heever saying that he did, but believes that “God doesn’t choose a political party.”
“Why does it say in the Bible that a man should marry a woman then?” the woman responded.
Heever said she “totally respected” the voter’s viewpoint, but that “we were not around when the Bible was written”:
I guess would what I would like you to do is just think deep inside and think like should it matter if it’s a woman or if it’s a man or if they’re heterosexual or homosexual if you believe in what they say. That’s my question… You have a total right to your opinion and I am not trying to tell you to think otherwise but I just ask you to look inside your heart because you sound like a Christian woman to me, and I’m a Christian woman and my God wants me to love everybody.
The woman was not having it. “But that’s not what the Bible says,” she argued. “So you must not believe it then if you think it’s okay for somebody to be married to a same sex person.”

Heever responded by saying that they were “just interpreting [the Bible] different and that’s okay because everybody gets to have their own beliefs. But what I teach my son is that love is love and we’re all human beings.”

Many leftists were appalled that someone dared to have a problem with Buttigieg being gay. A TMZ article said it was “pretty crazy to see that her way of thinking is alive and well.” Twitter exploded with similar comments:

It is not known whether the woman was able to recast her vote or not.
