Reports that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at age 87 have been confirmed on Friday evening, opening up a major political rift as both political parties scramble to react to the news.

Ginsburg’s death had been the subject of rumors through the afternoon, but given false reports of her death over the past few years many were cautious about reporting the news without direct confirmation.

Ginsburg’s family and the Supreme Court both confirmed her death Friday.

According to the New York Post, the Supreme Court confirmed that Ginsburg “died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer.”
