On Tuesday afternoon, a full week after the election, The Decision Desk HQ has called North Carolina for President Donald Trump and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), showing a sound defeat for Tillis’ well-funded Democratic challenger, Cal Cunningham, who National File exposed for having an extramarital affair with the wife of a U.S. Army veteran who apparently became suicidal after learning his wife was cheating him.
Decision Desk HQ officially projects that President Trump and Tillis will be the winners of the North Carolina elections, despite the vote having frozen at 94% reported on November 3 and remained almost constant until the race was called.

Tillis’ opponent, Cunningham, benefited from a very well funded campaign, with at least $66 million spent over the course of 2020. Cunningham was projected to win North Carolina, potentially transferring majority control of the U.S. Senate to the Democratic Party in the process, prior to a sudden and intense backlash provoked by National File’s bombshell reporting.

National File originally released several sexual text messages shared between Cunningham and his mistress, and eventually published more messages where the mistress discussed spending several days in Cunningham’s marital home without his wife’s knowledge. Eventually, a second mistress was reported to National File by several sources.
Most recently, National File has confirmed that Cunningham and his wife have separated, at least temporarily, and he has left the family home. Cunningham is currently living with his sister.
